Caltrans says it has no estimated time for the reopening of Highway 1 at Limekiln State Park in Monterey County.
A mudslide took out Highway 1 in that area on Thursday morning. Then, during cleanup Thursday, a contractors equipment was damaged by a boulder and work to clear the mess was postponed to Friday morning.
Currently, Caltrans says it has no estimated time for that roadway to reopen. But, it says that it should have a better estimate Friday afternoon as to when at least one lane of Highway 1 can be reopened in that area.
Now, this is the second slide on Highway 1 in Monterey County in recent weeks. The road completely gave way near Rocky Creek last week, also entirely shutting down the road in that area. That means Highway 1, right now, is closed on both sides of Big Sur. The portion of Highway 1 near Rocky Creek is expected to reopen in about four weeks.
