The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Unit is looking for a hiker who they say left Saturday morning and never returned home.

The Sheriff's Office says 44-year-old Richard Gates of Atascadero left around 6:30 Saturday morning to go hiking near Ragged Point.

They say he parked his vehicle near the Ragged Point Inn.

Crews began searching for Gates Sunday evening.

He is described as a white male, about 6 feet tall, weighing 290 pounds.

He has brown eyes and a beard.

Officials say he may be wearing khaki pants, a long-sleeved khaki shirt, and brown boots.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 781-4550.
