BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) - Fire officials say crews have made progress corralling wildfires in Central and Northern California, two of which are nearly fully contained.
The Comanche fire near Bakersfield was about 95 percent contained on Thursday morning. Firefighters expect to fully surround it on Friday. The Breckenridge fire near Tehachapi was 70 percent contained after burning into the Sequoia National Forest.
The two Kern County fires were sparked by lightning last week and have burned nearly 87 square miles of forest and brush lands. No homes have been damaged.
Meanwhile, in Inyo County in Northern California, a fire near Big Pine is 95 percent contained. That fire has burned about 8 square miles. State fire officials say an advisory telling residents in southwest Big Pine to be prepared for a possible evacuation will be lifted at 8 p.m. Thursday.
