California State University officials have begun their search for the next Cal Poly president.
The CSU Board of Trustees held the first and only open meeting Tuesday morning, to get input from students and faculty on what they want in their next president. Current president Warren Baker announced his retirement two months ago. He's been leading the campus for some 30 years. Board members say they've had no problem finding leaders for Cal Poly in the past. "They tend to be big personalities and stay a long time, so we're intent on making a very, very good selection," said Robert Achtenberg, of the CSU Board of Trustees.
Board members say they're taking nominations for the job until March. They say by fall, they hope to have the next president lined up and ready to take over. Dr. Baker has agreed to stay on until that person is chosen.
