Cuesta College is now on probation. The school learned about the status change Wednesday from the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges.
Last January, that same commission placed the college on warning status. Cuesta was given nine recommendations on areas where it needed to improve.
The commission then filed a report and visited the college last October. Based on the report and visit, the commission decided to place Cuesta on probation.
School leaders want to be clear that Cuesta has not lost its accreditation during the response process. Cuesta will continue to make improvements and the commission will visit again in November.
A final report will come next January or February.
