President Gil Stork said Governor Brown's budget does not include any community college reductions... at least for the time being.
It all depends on what voters decide on a tax initiative in November.
If that fails, Cuesta will face a $2-million dollar reduction. That's in addition to the $3-million dollar shortfall they already have.
Cuesta President Gil Stork spoke to staff and faculty as part of their spring semester opening day ceremony.
He said the numbers are sobering, and will translate into a loss of jobs.
"Over the last three years, we've already trimmed all of the stuff, all of the things, the paper, the travel, the professional development. And it's all about people now. Every time now we take another large reduction, it impacts our ability to maintain jobs, maintain employment, and services for our students, and the livelihood of our employees," said President Stork.
Stork and three vice presidents shaved off a collective $20-thousand dollars from their salaries, while more than 100 employees have had their hours cut or classes reduced.
Starting this summer, students will pay $46 dollars per unit starting summer of 2012... that's up from $36 dollars.
