The Cuesta and Allan Hancock College baseball teams both won Western State Conference games on Tuesday afternoon.
Behind a 6-run fifth inning, the Cougars won 10-1 at Ventura. Andrew Nelson threw a complete game 7 hitter. He allowed 1 run, 1 walk and struck out 9.
The Cougars collected 15 hits as five players had 2 hits apiece and every starter had at least one basehit. Zack Domingues went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI. Atascadero High graduate Spencer Ruggles wen 2 for 5 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. He tripled in the second inning to score Myles Franklin with the first rn of the game. Nicolas Rosso drove in 2 and scored twice. San Luis Obispo High graduate Scott Shields had 2 hits and drove in a run.
The Cougars are now 9-11 on the season and 3-4 in WSC play.
Hancockimproved to 4-3 in league and evened its overall mark at 10-10 with a 4-1 win at home over LA Pierce.
Ty Turner earned the win with 7 innings. He allowed 7 hits, 1 run, walked 2 and struck out 3.
Felipe Gonzalez and Ryan Wekler, both Santa Ynez High graduates, each had 2 hits. Gonzalez doubled in Tommy Lininger in the bottom of the fourth to give Hancock a 2-0 lead. Righetti High graduate Ryan Bendele drove in the first run of the game in the bottom of the third on a fielders choice that scored Roger Guillen.
