Cuesta College basketball star Alyssa Palma sealed the deal to take her game to the next level. The Atascadero High graduate signed her scholarship papers to Adams State on Wednesday.
Adams State is located in Alamosa, Colorado and competes at the Division II level and is a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Grizzlies are in the process of looking for a new head coach after they went 9-17 last season and 16-36 over the last two years. Adams State made the NCAA Tournament in 2010 and 2011.
"It's a dream come true. Not many kids get this opportunity so it's definitely a happy moment in my life that's for sure. It's a smaller city, a smaller school. You get a chance to find new things and there's snow so that'll be fun," said Palma, moments after signing her scholarship papers in front of friends, family, administrators and Cuesta head coach Ron Barba.
Palma was instrumental in lead the Cuesta women's basketball team to a second place finish in the Western State Conference and the team's first Regional Playoff berth in five years. The Cougars went 19-11 overall and 7-3 in conference.
Palma played in all 30 games for the Cougars her sophomore season and earned All-State honors. She led the team in scoring at 15.1 points per game and averaged 4 rebounds and 2.5 steals per contest.
Palma finished her Cuesta career as the program's all-time leading scorer with 766 career points. She ranks second with 13.7 points per game average and third with 164 career steals and 3.3 assists per game average.
