Cuesta men and women, Hancock men headed to playoffs

The Allan Hancock College men and both Cuesta College basketball teams will participate in the 2013 postseason.

The Bulldogs received the #11 seed in the Southern California Regional playoffs. Hancock plays at #6 College of the Canyons on Saturday at 7pm in a second round game. Hancock finished 20-9 overall and third in the WSC North Division. College of the Canyons went 20-8 and won the WSC South Division.

Hancock is led by Demetrius Thomas, who who led the league with 26 points and 12 rebounds per game. Thomas, Khufu Najee and Devonne Nolan earned All-WSC First Team honors.

The Cuesta men earned the #16 seed after they went 18-13 in the regular season. The Cougars open with a first round game on Wednesday at 7pm at home against #17 Citrus, which went 15-10 during the year.

The Cuesta women are in the playoffs for the first time since 2008. The Lady Cougars are fresh off a 19-10 regular season that included a second place finish in the WSC-North Division. The Cougars are the #14 seed in the Southern California Regional and play at second round game on Friday at #3 Mt. San Jacinto, which went 26-2 during the regular season.
