Cuesta College cross country and track head coach Brian Locher has been named the best in the state. The California Community College Cross Country and Track Coaches Association selected Locher as its Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year.
The 5CTCA cited Locher for the ability to develop highly competitive cross country teams by maximizing the individual potential of each of his team members. They also praised him for being a role model for ethical behavior and outstanding sportsmanship.
Last fall, Locher coached the Lady Cougars to a third place finish in the Western State Conference and fourth place finish at the CCCAA State Champpionships. He earned WSC Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year and was named WSC Men's Cross Country Coach of th eYear in 2008 and 2010.
Locher is the fifth Cuesta coach to earn the CCCAA State Coach of the Year honor. Women's Volleyball Coach Hugh Gerhardt won in 1996. Men's Swimming and Diving coach Terrry Bowen earned the honor in 1995 and 1998. Ed Musolff won the award in 1997 for women's basketball. Mike Napoli took home the honor twice as Women's Tennis Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2008.
