Western State Conference co-champions Santa Barbara City and Cuesta baseball will open the 2012 playoffs at home later this week.
Cuesta (23-13) received the #6 seed in the Southern California Regional. Cuesta opens against 11th seeded Cypress, which finished the regular season 22-14. The two teams open a best of three game series on Saturday at 1pm. Game two is Sunday at 11 am with a third game if necessary to follow at 3pm on Sunday.
The Cougars lost 2-0 to Cypress in a spring tournament earlier this season. Cuesta dropped four of its last thirteen games down the home stretch, but still managed to earn a piece of its first title in three years. This marks the 17th year in a row Cuesta has made it to the state playoffs. The Cougars have won 12 league titles during that stretch.
The Vaqueros, who won back-to-back title for the first time in program history, received the 15th seed in the So-Cal Regional. The Vaqueros (19-17) open at home Tuesday against 18th seeded Canyons in a play-in game. SBCC is riding a season-best 5 game-winning streak. The Vaqueros lost 6-5 to Canyons earlier this season.
The winner of Tuesday's game advances to play 2nd seeded Rio Hondo (33-3) in the next round.
