Sixth seeded Cuesta lost to 11th seeded Cypress 13-9 on Sunday to lose the first round series two games to none in the CCCAA Super Regionals. Cypress beat Cuesta 6-2 on Saturday in game one of the best of three series. The loss ends the Cougars season at 23-15. Cypress improves to 24-14. At one point this season Cuesta was 17-3 after a 17 game winning streak.
Cypress broke a 1-1 tie with six runs in the third and never looked back. Cuesta equalled Cypress with 14 hits. Sophomore Alex Detz was 3-5 with an RBI leading off for the Cougars while LaBronze Sanderson was 3-4 with 2-RBI. Cuesta starter Jordan Goldsmith took the loss after allowing six runs in two innings. Goldsmith, Detz and Sanderson are among the 13 sophomores who played their final games at Cuesta.
