For the first time in several years, the Cuesta College women's basketball team has climbed into the regional poll.
The Cougars received 23 points and are ranked #15 this week in the South Region by the California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
The Cougars are off to a 7-2 start under third year head coach Ron Barbara. Cuesta won its first title since 2001 at its own Conoco Phillips 66 Tournament earlier this month.
Atascadero High graduate Alyssa Palma, a sophomore guard, is averaging 17.1 points per game, which ranks 15th in the state. Freshman Courtney Chadwick and sophomore forward Aria Johnson, a Morro Bay High graduate, are tied for 34th in the state at 14.4 points per game.
Cuesta plays at a tournament hosted by Orange Coast College this weekend.
Santa Barbara City College, which won the Bulldog Classic last week, climbed to #12 in the South Region. The 10-3 Vaqueros are also ranked 19th in the State Poll.
