The Cuesta women's basketball kept its hopes alive for a Western State Division title with a 90-87 overtime win at LA Pierce. The Cougars improve to 5-2 in the Division and 17-9 overall. They are in a second place tie with Santa Barbara City College, one game behind first place Ventura. The Cougars host Santa Barbara on Wednesday, play at Hancock next Saturday and finish the regular season with a home game against Ventura the following Saturday.
Cuesta played with just seven players and were down to five when two of them fouled out during regulation. The Cougars went into overtime with all five players with four fouls, one away from fouling out. None of them did.
Four Cuesta players scored 20 points or more led by sophomore post, Aria Johnson. The Morro Bay High graduate scored 22. Freshman Miriam Zabinsky scored 21 while freshman Courtney Chadwick and sophomore Alyssa Palma added 20. Palma is an Atascadero High School graduate.
