NORWALK, Calif. (AP) California Highway Patrol officers say a motorcyclist was killed and traffic ground to a halt on Interstate 5 through Norwalk Thursday.

Authorities say the cyclist crashed around 4:25 a.m. near Pioneer Boulevard.

The CHP says a second crash occurred in clogged southbound lanes around 5:20 a.m. when a big rig rear-ended a stopped passenger car.

All southbound lanes were closed for the investigation. Northbound lanes were seriously slowed.

Authorities didn't know when the freeway would reopen.
