An injury almost cost Solvang's Todd Rogers and his shot at defending his Beijing Olympic Gold Medal. Rogers' partner Phil Dalhausser sprained his ankle while the two played in a tournament at the FIVB World Tour Klagenfurt Grand Slam.
The injury happened in the semifinals on Sunday. They forfeited in the bronze medal match as a precaution.
Dalhausser, who lives in Ventura, apparently rolled his ankle in a divot. The hard packed sand played a role in the mishap. Rogers said it was nothing to worry about. These types of injuries will be up to local orthopedic surgeon Dr. Jonathan Fow to treat in London. The Chief of Staff at Arroyo Grande Community Hospital is part of the U.S. Olympic Medical Team invited to London to work with the American beach volleyball teams.
Rogers and Dalhausser are the #2 overall seed in London. They were placed in Pool B with three other teams. They open pool play on Sunday, July 29 against Kentaro Asahi/Katsuhiro Shiratori of Japan.
In Beijing, Rogers and Dalhausser lost their opening match before winning the rest of the way to capture Olympic Gold Medals.
