A new study has revealed why children in day care centers are getting less exercise and outdoor play.
Researchers said playgrounds have become less challenging because of licensing codes and many parents have asked the centers to limit physical activity because of injury concerns.
It has also become very expensive for day care facilities to install enough playground equipment.
Child care providers said pressure from parents and state mandates to focus on academics has also shortened the time allowed for play.
A new study has also explored how important protein is to weight management.
In the study, 25 participants overate with various levels of protein intake.
After three months, they all gained weight, but researchers determined it was the additional calories that led to an increase in fat mass not an over-consumption of protein.
Weight control experts said understanding nutrition science is important in the battle against obesity.
