The deadline for candidates to apply online for Santa Maria police chief is 5 p.m. Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Interim Chief Ralph Martin told KSBY he was seriously considering applying for the permanent position.
Martin was appointed to the temporary position after Chief Danny Macagni retired in August.
Martin retired after serving 35 years with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's department.
Candidates who make the cut will appear before a panel for interviews. The date for the interviews is tentatively set for November 29th.
The screening board will recommend a list of finalists to City Manager Rick Haydon.
