Tuesday at 5 p.m. is the deadline for Santa Maria residents to apply for the open seat on the city council.
The opening was created when Alice Patino became mayor in December.
The city council had been deadlocked since then on how to fill the seat.
As of late Monday afternoon, seven people had applied for the open seat. They included former City Councilmember Mike Cordero. Etta Waterfield, who lost a race for the council by just two votes in November, told KSBY News last week she would also apply for the seat.
The council will interview applicants at its next meeting on February 19th.
