Delta IV heavy rocket to make debut at Vandenberg AFB

A powerful, new rocket is about to make its debut to the media at Vandenberg Air Force Base.

The Delta IV Heavy rocket is scheduled to launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base in December of this year. It would be the first launch of the Delta IV Heavy rocket in the state, and the most powerful rocket to ever launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base. The rocket has been launched for three other missions, but were all launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida.

Vandenberg Air Force Base officials say the Delta IV Heavy rocket was developed as enhancements to the Delta I, II and III family of vehicles. Here on the Central Coast, residents have seen numerous launches of the Delta II rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base. This new Delta IV Heavy rocket is meant to accommodate larger loads when they're launched.
