SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) California Democrats are awaiting word that party icon Jerry Brown will officially enter the governor's race.
Brown has been playing a wait-and-see game for months, raising money for a run without formally declaring his candidacy.
The waiting game is expected to end soon. If he announces as expected, Brown will become the Democrats' presumed nominee in this year's governor's race because there is no other serious contender in the party's primary. The candidate filing deadline is March 12.
The 71-year-old attorney general served two terms as governor after winning the 1974 election and ran for the party's presidential nomination three times.
