Two men are facing possession of fighting birds charges after Santa Barbara County Sheriff's deputies broke up a rooster fight.

It happened around 11 a.m. Sunday on a private property near the Santa Maria Airport on Mahoney Road.

The Sheriff's Office says 19 roosters were found along with items consistent with rooster fighting and gambling.

Deputies say around 20 to 30 people ran from the scene when they arrived.

Deputies did arrest 77 year-old Cipriano Rodriguez and 32 year-old Armando Villa for possession of fighting birds and trespassing.

85 year-old Jose Alvarez and 55 year-old Carlos Villa were cited for trespassing.
