Just weeks after announcing his retirement from professional baseball to pursue the priesthood, Grant Desme will return to Cal Poly this weekend.

Desme headlines a talented list of former Cal Poly baseball stars who will return for the annual alumni game. The Oakland Athletics invited Desme, their rising star to Spring Training prior to his retirement. He was the only player in the Minor Leagues last season to hit 30 or more home runs and steal 40 or more bases.

Three year Major League veteran Garrett Olson will also return to Baggett Stadium for the Alumni game that is scheduled for Saturday at 1pm. Olson owns a career 13-18 record for the Orioles and Mariners.

Other notable pitchers expected to return are Thomas Eager, Eric Massingham and Rocky Roquet. Desme, Ryan Lee and Brandon Roberts are some of the outfielders scheduled to be at Baggett Stadium, while Adam Buschini, Brent Morel and Jimmy Van O'strand are among the returning infielders.

The alumni and current Cal Poly team will play at 1pm on Saturday in Baggett Stadium. Cal Poly opens its 2010 season February 19 at home against USC. First pitch will be at 6pm.
