Despite recent rains Central Coast could still use a bit more

Our rain season here on the Central Coast runs from the 1st of July to June 30th since the bulk of rain we get comes in the winter months.

The following are rain totals since July 1st followed by the normal amounts in the 30 year average and the difference:

Santa Maria 3.03" (3.75" -.70")

Paso Robles 2.88" (3.51" -.63")

Santa Barbara 5.48" (4.94 +.54")

San Luis Obispo 5.74" (6.7" -1.04")

* Those are totals for the airports kept by NOAA. Each town has a number of different gauges and they all read differently. In San Luis Obispo the Cal Poly numbers are different, however other than that these are the numbers ultimately reported to the National Climatic Data Center for archival purposes. These numbers are only meant to be somewhat representative of overall conditions. The message is essentially that recent rains cut significantly into existing deficits but didn't entirely erase them. Only Santa Barbara is running a surplus this season, though it is not a large one. Last year most of the Central Coast only got about 60% of normal precipitation for some perspective.
