The unit 2 reactor at Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant unexpectedly shut down Thursday, according to PG&E spokesman Blair Jones.
The shutdown happened just after noon.
It was due to an electrical disturbance in equipment used to export power into the grid. PG&E says that it is a precaution for the reactor to shut down.
It is unclear when the unit will restart. An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the shutdown.
