Dining in the dark in Lompoc this weekend

It's likely to enhance the culinary experience, and certainly the memories of the meal.

This Saturday, October 5th, The Vandenberg Village Lions Club will host its first Dinner in the Dark event - a three-course dinner held in total darkness - from 5:30 to 8 p.m. It's happening La Purisima Parish Hall.

The idea is to give locals an opportunity to experience what it's like to dine out as someone who is blind. Tickets are currently on sale for $25. Proceeds will benefit the Lions Club White Cane Fund, which is dedicated to assisting those with sight impairment. The funds will also be used to conduct eye screenings at four schools: Cabrillo High School, Vandenberg Middle School, and Los Berros, Buena Vista and Crestview elementary schools.

If you attend, you will be blindfolded to keep all ambient light out and servers will also be working in darkness. Organizers hope the funds raised by the dinner will sustain the White Cane Fund for the whole year.
