Direct Relief International can now take a big leap forward thanks to a big leap year gift from Santa Barbara County vintners.
Direct Relief provides medical supplies to clinics and hospitals around the world.
The Santa Barbara County Vintners Foundation raised $500,000 during an annual wine auction, and on Wednesday, the foundation presented the check to Direct Relief.
Members call this donation a big leap forward for themselves as well, because this year's check represents a 50% increase over past checks donated, which in total, make up more than $1.6 million.
