VENTURA, Calif. (AP) - A Ventura County sheriff's cold case murder investigation has led to an arrest 33 years after the body of an Oxnard woman was found buried in an agricultural field.
KBAK-TV Bakersfield (http://bit.ly/MpKRQp ) says 63-year-old John Clark Russell was arrested Thursday in Bakersfield for the March 1979 killing of 23-year-old Alma Zuniga, who died of gunshot and stab wounds
Russell is now in the Ventura County Jail, where he has been booked for investigation of murder.
The Ventura County Star (http://bit.ly/QORgJS ) says there were few leads immediately after the slaying.
But the sheriff's Cold Case Homicide Task Force reopened the case in 2005 and interviews and a DNA match led detectives to Russell.
A motive for the killing hasn't been disclosed.
