The Los Angeles Dodgers are set to play the first game of the NLCS in St. Louis on Friday.
Game 1 starter Zach Grienke gave up 2 earned runs in 6 innings against the Braves in the NLDS. He'll face second-year pitcher Joe Kelly who gave up 2 earned in 5.1 innings against the Pirates in the NLDS.
The Dodgers won the regular season series against the Cardinals, 4-3, three of the four wins came during their 53-13 run late in the season.
After pitching 6 strong innings in the Dodgers Monday night win against Atlanta, Clayton Kershaw is expected to rest until Game 2. On the other side, Adam Wainwright is expected to start Game 3 after earning a complete game win versus the Pirates Wednesday night.
Oddly enough, the best pitcher in baseball hasn't had great success in his career against the Cardinals. In 12 career starts, Kershaw owns a 3.75 ERA with a 4-5 record.
For the Cardinals, Carlos Beltran will be a player to watch for the series. Beltran is tied with Babe Ruth for eighth on the all-time postseason home runs list with 15. He was 4-for-17 against the Pirates in the NLDS.
A potential x-factor for the Dodgers this series is right fielder Yasiel Puig. Puig went 8-for-17 in the NLDS against the Braves and his play in the field or at the plate has the potential to turn a game or an entire series around.
First pitch for Game 1 is set for 5:37 p.m. on Friday.
