CORONADO, Calif. (AP) - A public works crew in Coronado has found a dead dog in a storm drain with an arrow through its stomach.
Police tell KNSD-TV (http://bit.ly/MEORtV ) that the dog's decomposing body was found Wednesday by a crew cleaning storm drains on Alameda Boulevard.
Police are investigating the incident as animal cruelty.
Officers say the dog is small, the size of a terrier, and appears to have been dead for some time. They say a sporting arrow went through the middle of its body.
The dog was scanned for a microchip but none was found.
Anyone who might know anything about the dog's death is asked to call Coronado police.
Coronado is located across San Diego Bay about 5 miles west of San Diego.
