Will Bowne recently finished the John Muir trail hike in eight days in an effort to increase awareness for heart disease and support for the American Heart Association. He experienced an incredible journey, which was extremely demanding both physically and mentally. Most people do this trip in 21 days and have some sort of support from either people or resupply points. Will did it completely solo with no support or resupplying stations.
Will's journey began when he left from Yosemite Valley at 6:00 am on August 31st, arriving at Mt. Whitney on September 7th.
Will is known in his community as a model of good health and active lifestyle. It wasn't until one day when Will got his blood pressure taken while attending a American Heart Association charity event. After five readings Will was told that his blood pressure was too high for someone his age and healthy lifestyle, and the nurses recommended he go see a physician that day.
After Will attended the event, Lorraine took the stage. As she shared her amazing story, one sentence rose to the top of Will's radar
and impacted me the most, "If I had just listened to my doctor and taken my blood pressure medication, I probably would have never had a stroke."
Realizing his condition was not unique Will set out on an adventure, to hike the John Muir Trail in eight days. Will and a team of friends and family not only helped to raise money for the American Heart Association, they helped raise Will's spirits.
