According to Avoid the 12 of Santa Barbara County, deputies and officers have arrested 118 suspected drunk drivers in the holiday DUI crackdown that began on December 18. Authorities say the number of arrests is similar to a crackdown last year, when 115 people had been arrested.
The crackdown is not over yet. Several DUI checkpoints are planned on the Central Coast this week, according to Avoid the 12 of Santa Barbara County. Checkpoints are set for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights in Santa Maria. A DUI task force will also be patrolling Santa Barbara on New Year's Eve. California Highway Patrol officers from the Santa Barbara, Buellton, and Santa Maria offices will be on the lookout for drunk drivers, as well.
