A driver was taken to the hospital with major injuries after crashing into a school bus Wednesday night.
It happened around 8 p.m. on Highway 101 North near Grand Avenue just south of Arroyo Grande.
The California Highway Patrol says the bus was having mechanical issues, and the driver slowed down while looking for an exit.
That's when they say the driver of a Honda Accord ran into the back of the bus.
The 30-year-old driver of the Accord was taken to a local hospital with major injuries.
Thirty-six students and two adults were on the bus.
CHP says six people on the bus were injured, and one student was taken to the hospital.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
CHP says alcohol and drugs have been ruled out.
