Driver in deadly Morro Bay accident facing DUI charges

A Cayucos woman is facing DUI charges after police say she hit-and-killed one cyclist and seriously injured another along Highway 1 Monday morning.

It happened in the southbound lane, just south of the Main Street overpass in Morro Bay.

The CHP says 29 year-old Jessica Goddard hit the two cyclists from behind around 11:30 AM.

Goddard was arrested at the scene and is facing charges of felony DUI causing injury and/or death along, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and reckless driving.

When they arrived at the scene, police found one cyclist on the shoulder of the road.

They say the other person had been thrown over the guard rail by the impact.

One of the cyclists was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

CHP says the victims are both men, ages 60 and 65, from Los Osos, but their names will not be released until next of kin has been notified.
