Driver leaves scene after crashing into building

Officials in Santa Maria say they responded to an accident Saturday evening that caused thousands of dollars worth of damage and the driver nowhere to be found.

Officials there say a vehicle crashed into a building around 6:30 p.m. in the 400 Block of North Broadway.

They say when police and firefighters arrived, the driver and any passengers had already left the scene.

Damage is estimated at $12,000.
