Drowsy driving as dangerous as drunk driving

Most people understand the dangers of driving after too many drinks, but driving while drowsy can be just as dangerous.

Although data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show just 2% of car crashes involve drowsy drivers, some estimate the percentage is as high as 33%.

Researchers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention analyzed survey responses from nearly 150,000 adults and found 4.2% said they've fallen asleep while driving at least once during the previous month.

It was most common among those who usually snored or slept fewer than 6 hours.
