A special city council and planning commission meeting was held in Atascadero Tuesday night about the Eagle Ranch project.
The city planning commission voted 6 to 0 to move forward with an environmental impact report.
The Eagle Ranch project includes various applications for a large section of Atascadero's southern boundary.
People for and against spoke out at the meeting.
One woman at the meeting told KSBY News, "This is a huge project, just enormous, in my mind and I just don't understand the scope of it and why its so big."
The project manager for RRM Design, based in San Luis Obispo, says, "With 452 (lots) there today and 494 proposed we think the trade-off on the lot basis is great, you're getting 16 miles of trail a public park all of this stuff 44 more lots if you discount the commercial uses."
Once the EIR is completed the decision on annexation into the city will be made. At the time Atascadero was incorporated in 1979, the Eagle Ranch was left outside city limits.
