Mitch Martin fired a one-over par 72 to lead the Arroyo Grande High boys golf team to a 14th place finish in its first-ever appearance in the CIF Southern Section Team Championships on Thursday at the Rancho San Marcos Golf Course.
The Eagles compiled a team score of 397 strokes. They finished 34 strokes behind first place Santa Margarita. Beau Hossier, who is considered the top golfer in the section, led the champions with a six-under 65.
Santa Barbara finished in fourth place with a total score of 374. The Dons were led by Jonathan Collins' one-under 70 and Mickey Kirby's two-over 73. By finishing in the top four of the twenty-one team field, the Dons qualified for the Southern California Regional Championships that will take place on May 31 at the Brookside Country Club.
Dos Pueblos came in eighth place with a total score of 380.
Under the guidance of head coach Jeff Byars, Arroyo Grande had four golfers shoot 80 or better. Cobe Williams fired a 78, Doug Merrin shot a 79 and Josh Schneider carded an 80. Alex Linn finished with an 88, while Jordan Mac Murphey shot a 102.
