Eagles keep title hopes alive with 8-3 win at Atascadero

The Arroyo Grande baseball team remains in the hunt for a share of the Pac 7 title and the league's top seed for the CIF playoffs after an 8-3 win at Atascadero on Wednesday afternoon.

The Eagles improved to 12-3-2 in league after their fifth straight win and 17-6-3 overall. The Greyhounds fell to 7-9-1 in league and 12-14-1 on the season.

AG scored twice in the first inning, but Atascadero scored once in the first and twice in the second to take a 3-2 lead. The Eagles regained the lead for good with 2 runs in the third inning with Dylan Azevedo scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball. They carried a 4-3 lead into the seventh inning where they erupted for 4 runs to put the game away.

Garrett Ball led the Eagles' 9 hit attack with 2 hits and a walk. Tyler Auerbach continued his hot hitting since returning from an injury with a 2-run double in the seventh. Casey Muth added a run-scoring single in the seventh. Azevedo walked twice, scored twice and singled once.

Joe Johnson led the Greyhounds with 3 hits to go with an RBI. Kelton Torres also had 2 hits.

Daniel Ramirez earned the win for AG with 5 innings of work. Kyle Brown picked up the save by throwing the last two innings with 3 strikeouts.

The Eagles need a win in their regular season finale on Friday at home against the Greyhounds to share the crown with Righetti. The Warriors are off this week after ending league on a nine game winning streak to post a 14-4 mark.
