The defending PAC-7 League champion Arroyo Grande High baseball team routed Atascadero for the second day in a row. The Eagles beat the Greyhounds 10-1 on Wednesday after beating them handily the day before.
Tyler Auerbach started the scoring for the Eagles with a base hit down the left field line to score Mike Fisher in the second inning. It was the first of the sophomore's three hits in the game.
The Eagles erupted for four runs in the third inning. Gomez hit a chopper that went through the third baseman's legs to score Jordan Morrison, who led off the frame with single. Cameron Petetit rolled a grounder to shortstop, but the throw to first was low and squirted away allowing Chris Davidson to score to make it 3-0. Mark Moreno followed with a double down the left field line to score Gomez to make it 4-0. Auerbach followed with a basehit between short and third to plate Petetit and the rout was on.
Kyle Brown started on the mound for the Eagles and earned the win with six innings of work.
The game featured two collisions at the plate. The first came in the bottom of the first when center fielder Logan Sprouse threw out Gomez trying to score from second base. Then in the second, Atascadero catcher Michael Baez tried to score from first base on a double to right field, but was tagged out in a collision at home by the AG catcher Petetit. All four players involved in the plays at the plate were okay and stayed in the game.
The Eagles improved to 3-5 in league and go for the three game sweep of the Greyhounds on Friday at Atascadero High. The Hounds dropped to 2-6 in league.
