Eagles soar into second round of CIF, LPAL baseball teams go 2 for 4

Templeton baseball overcame an early 2-0 deficit to rally for a 10-6 win over Valley Christian out of Cerritos on Thursday afternoon, which was a day where 3 out of the 4 Los Padres League teams won their CIF Division 5 first round games.

The Eagles, who captured the outright Los Padres League title, improved to 18-4 on the season. They face Big Bear in next Tuesday's second round. A coin flip on Friday will determine the host team.

Templeton cut the deficit in half with a double to the gap from Andy Garretson to score Spencer Walsh. The Eagles erupted for 6 runs in the third to take a commanding 7-2 lead.

Walsh led Templeton's offense with a 3 for 3 effort with 2 doubles, a triple, a walk, 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. Taylor Tobin went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI singles. Tyrus Yamagata, as well as twin brothers Donald and Justin Syracuse had 2 hits and 1 RBI each. Austin Alarcon also made a few defensive gems at third base for Templeton.

Also on Thursday, Santa Ynez beat St. Bernard 9-4 to move on to the second round. The 18-9 Pirates face 19-6 Shadow Hills next Tuesday with the host school determined with a coin flip on Friday. The 14-16 Cabrillo Conquistadores lost 10-3 at Mary Star of the Sea.

Lompoc also fell 11-7 at Tahquitz in the first round. The Braves finished the season 11-15 overall.
