After a 25-7 regular season and perfect 8-0 run through the Pac 7, the Arroyo Grande boys volleyball team is ready for the CIF playoffs. The Eagles were brimming with excitement and confidence as they practiced on Monday. Arroyo Grande will host Saugus on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the first round of the Division 2 Southern Section playoffs.
Arroyo Grande libero Tanner Howard said the team knew it was good entering the season but the expectations were elevated after the Eagles went 4-0 at the Crescenta Valley Tournament last week. Arroyo Grande beat perennial power Oaks Christian at the tournament. "We knew as a team that we could go up against the best of them. We just needed an opportunity to do that. That opportunity came when we played Oaks Christian and we beat them" said Howard, one of six seniors on the team.
After winning its fourth league title in six years, Arroyo Grande is now focused on a CIF playoff run. "This is a team where we could go really far, we could try and break that barrier of third round. I don't think any AG team has gone past that third round and so if we're able to do that I think that's a pretty good goal to set" said Howard. Head coach Laurel Allen has also seen enough to be confident in her teams chances to make a run. "Our team could go as far as they want to go. All the way to the finals. They have that energy. They have that team camaraderie. they're having too much fun to stop."
