Eagles widen lead, Knights' Gillaspy medals at Pac 7 Tournament

The Arroyo Grande High girls golf team extended its lead in the overall Pac 7 standings and St. Joseph's Desiree Gillaspy earned the medalist honor at the midseason league tournament at the Blacklake Golf Resort in Nipomo on Thursday.

Gillaspy shot a 2-over par 34 on the first nine played on the Oak Course and finished with a 6-over par 42 on the back nine played on the Canyons. Arroyo Grande's Anna Zhang finished second in the individual race with a 39-42 to card an 81. San Luis Obispo's Nora Zakaria came in third with an 85 (45-40).

The Eagles won the front 9 with a team score of 220. San Luis Obispo finished second in the front nine with a 231, while Righetti finished third at 237, St. Joseph in fourth at 241 and Pioneer Valley fifth with a 245.

The Tigers roared back to win the back nine with a 233, edging the Eagles by one stroke. Righetti finished third (246) and St. Joseph fourth (263).

When all the scores were added up, AG won with an 18 hole total of 454, SLO finished second with a 464, Righetti came in third with 483, St. Joseph in fourth at 504, Paso Robles in fifth with a 519, followed by Pioneer Valley at 524. Atascadero had only four golfers play instead of six and did not factor in the final standings.

PV's top performance was a 100 from Stella Dulay and Jessica Osborn. Paso Robles was led by Carly McCall, who shot a 97. Atascadero's top score was an 108 from Miranda Roetker. Samantha Bettiga paced the Warriors with a 91. Neha Sikand shot an 88 and Sam Lopez fired an 89 for the Tigers. Megan Donegan shot a 90 for the Eagles' second-best score of the day.

The Eagles remain in first place overall with 42 points. Thanks to its second place finish in the tournament, the Tigers entered a tie for second place with Righetti with 34 points. AG entered the tournament with a 2 point lead over the Warriors.
