BELL, Calif. (AP) - Early returns show residents in the scandal-plagued Southern California city of Bell are overwhelmingly supporting the recall of four city council members.
With just several hundred votes counted Tuesday, more than 90 percent of voters cast ballots in favor of recalling council members Teresa Jacobo, George Mirabal, Oscar Hernandez and former Councilman Luis Artiga.
Artiga resigned but is still on the ballot.
Early returns show business owner Ali Saleh, social services worker Violeta Alvarez and English teacher Fidencio Joel Gallardo leading in the race to replace three open seats on the council.
Lorenzo Velez is the only current council member who was not charged in the corruption scandal. He is seeking re-election, but was lagging behind in very early returns.
