On Tuesday and Wednesday, October 1 and 2, emergency planning workers will test the Early Warning System in San Luis Obispo County.
Workers will conduct a series of low volume growl tests. They will look at all 131 sirens throughout the Emergency Planning Zone to make sure the sirens are working properly.
The sirens were installed because of San Luis Obispo's close proximity to Diablo Canyon Power Plant, but they can be used for any local emergency
The Early Warning System sirens span from north of Cayucos to just south of the Nipomo Mesa, which includes Nipomo Mesa, the Five Cities Area, Avila Bay, See Canyon, Squire Canyon, Price Canyon, Baywood Park, Los Osos, San Luis Obispo, Morro Bay, and Cayucos.
