Edna Valley resident Ted Lilly will start the season on the disabled list for the Dodgers. The 37 year old left handed pitcher was placed on the 15 day DL retroactive to March 22. Lilly was recovering from left shoulder labrum surgery, he had a number of setbacks during spring training that prevented him from building up arm strength. Lilly missed two starts with the flu and had another shortened by rain.
Los Angeles has a starting pitching logjam that was temporarily solved by Lilly and Chad Billingsley being placed on the disabled list to start the season. Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke, Josh Beckett and Hyun-Jin Ryu appear to be locks for the rotation but the fifth spot is up for grabs. In addition to Lilly and Billingsley, Aaron Harang and Chris Capuano are competing for the spot.
Both Harang and Capuano are on the 25-man roster to open the season, but neither has been named a starting pitcher officially.
