Teasing girls about their weight has an effect that lasts long after they leave the playground.
In a new study, more than 1,500 women filled out surveys detailing their eating behaviors and whether they were teased as children.
Researchers found nearly half had been ridiculed because of their weight. These women were more likely to binge eat, purge, misuse medicine, and exercise excessively as young adults.
They say it is important to teach children that teasing others about their weight is unacceptable.
Women who were heavier as children reported more instances of teasing.
