A Templeton neighborhood is now running off the power of the sun, thanks to today's "Solar-Thon" Celebration.
Dozens of community leaders and volunteers put on their hard-hats, and got busy on roof tops to install solar panels on eight newly-built homes. The project benefits families who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford the installation.
"Today we're going to be installing 19 kilowats of solar energy and that's going to save $171,000 dollars of value for the home owners over the lifetime of these solar system," said Steve Fernandez, Regional Director GRID Alternatives.
"Grid Alternatives" teamed up with "Self -Help Housing," and several other sponsors to solarize the homes. The hope to install panels on all 25 homes of the neighborhood.
