Elderly Man Killed in Accident in Santa Maria

An elderly Santa Maria man died Saturday morning after he was hit by a car. The Santa Maria Police Department says 81-year-old Stefan Suszko was trying to cross the intersection at Carlotti Drive and Paden Street. That's when he was hit by a 2003 Volkswagon Passat. Suszko was taken to the hospital with a broken leg and major head trauma. He later died. The driver has been identified as 38-year-old Robert Utzinger of Santa Maria. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
