The application process began Wednesday to fill the open seat on the Santa Maria City Council.
Etta Waterfield, who lost by two votes in her race to win one of two seats on the council last November, told KSBY News on Wednesday she plans to apply for the open seat.
Former City Council member Mike Cordero, who lost the mayoral race to Patino, also told KSBY News he will apply for the open seat.
The vacany was created in December when Alice Patino became mayor. Mayor Patino supported appointing Waterfield to the vacant seat.
At the City Council meeting Tuesday, Patino was the only vote against using an application process to fill her old seat.
February 12th is the deadline to apply. Applications are available at the Santa Maria City Clerk's office and at the city's website.
The City Council will interview applicants at the February 19th meeting.
